The opposition “United National Movement” party will elect its chairman at the Congress scheduled for today. The congress will vote for Grigol Vashadze.
“Grigol Vashadze has confirmed that he is a serious political leader. He, in fact, defeated the presidential candidate in the first round of the presidential elections and the second round was not elections at all, but it was a falsified election process. Vashadze has shown the fighting efficiency, the ability of communication with people. Therefore, if he was a high-ranking diplomat in the past, today, Grigol Vashadze is a high-ranking politician. The natural political process has emerged a new leader in the party,” Roman Gotsiridze, one of the leader of the party, said.
Georgia’s ex-President, Mikheil Saakashvili announced in a Facebook video statement on March 18 that he would will no longer serve as a chairman of the “United National Movement”. “The party needs a new leader on the ground… Grigol Vashadze carried out the Presidential campaign very well and I would personally welcome his candidacy as UNM chairman,” he noted.
